William was only six years of age when his father died. He was raised by his step father and on the 1880 census he was living with his sister Anna in the Preston/Durrett Lane area. He married a neighbor Louise Kinker on 4 Aug. 1881 (Rev. C.J. Zimmerman, St. John's Evangelical Church). The 1882 city directory lists William as a Stonemason living at 718 East Madison that his parents built in 1851-1852. The children sold the building in 1888. He and Louise lived several places thereafter, 625 Laurel, 1217 Goss, and 1707 Portland Ave. In 1909 they were residing at 2214 Portland. He was a Sawyer for Peter Burghard Stone Co. the family remained at this location for fifty-eight years. The last child to die was Minnie in 1967.

William and Louise had six children, five living to adulthood. The last, Ida C., was born in April 1894 and
was not on the 1910 census.

William died of a cerebral hemorrhage, occupation Stone Sawyer.
