After the death of her parents Emma lived with her father and step-mother Gertrude Stuckenberg. She married Herman on 2 May 1888. They lived on Chestnut St. in Louisville.

Emma and Herman had nine children, eight living to adulthood:

1. Helen born Feb. 1889.

2. Edna J., Aug. 1889. Married an Emhoff and was a widow on the 1920 census living with her parents.

3. Marie, Dec. 1894.

4. Herman W., Nov. 1897.

5. Alvina, Aug. 1899.

6. Roman J., ca. 1902.

7. Edwin F., ca. 1904.

8. Marcella J., ca 1910.

Emma's half brother, Henry Leising was living with her on the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census and remained with her until his death in 1927.

At the time of Emma's death she and her single daughter were living at 1854 Harvard Drive. The cause of death was the same as Herman's, Myocardities.
