The Csikos family applied for VISAs to many countries, while awaiting responses, Chuck turned 21 years old & needed to apply on his own. The rest of the family came to America & worked to get a VISA for Chuck...it worked. His sister Eva also remained in Germany for a time because she had married & needed her own VISA.
HIS WIFE WROTE:
Karoly came to America on the "General Henry Taylor"; arriving in New York on 3 Mar 1951. He took a train to Toledo OH arriving on Sunday; a local Hungarian family from the Catholic church provided him with accommodations for the day until the train to Coldwater MI left there on Monday. Monday he continued his travels to join his family. One year & 4 days later he received "greetings" from Uncle Sam, so off he went to the U.S.Army & served in Korea. In 1953 he was discharged from the service & went to work at Ford Motor Co in Cleveland OH. He did not like the assembly line, so he decided to go to college sooner than he intended, with the help of the G.I.Bill. He went to Indiana Technical College in FortWayne IN. Chuck, as he was called in the Army, worked at Miller's Cafeteria for his meals during his college days; there he met Kathryn Boswell. Two years later they were married. Chuck finished school in 1957 & they moved to Minneapolis MN. There in early 1957, he applied for his citizenship. In Dec of 1957, Chuck made a decision regarding his religious affiliation & became immersed in Christ. On 19 Feb 1958 Chuck officially received his naturalization papers. In Feb 1961 the Csikos family moved to Florida where Chuck spent 8.5 years working at Cape Canaveral. Then in 1970 Chuck joined the teaching staff of Brevard Community College where he taught electronics.
