"John William Arnold, 86, 4970 Glenn St. [Murray, UT] died in a Salt Lake Hospital Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. after a lingering illness.
He was born May 1, 1866, in Salt Lake City, a son of John and Mary Ann Snarr Arnold. He married Elizabeth Lyon Dec. 10, 1894, in Salt Lake City. She died April 27, 1948.
Mr. Arnold was a native of Salt Lake County and worked at the Murray Smelter at an early age for about 10 years.
He drove mule cars in Salt Lake City and was employed by the old Utah Light and Rail Co. He drove the only freight and express line between Salt Lake City, Murray, Midvale, and Sandy for many years.
He was caretaker for the Murray City Park when it was first developed.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Munro, Los Angeles; Mrs. J. Earl (Roxy) Peterson, Berkley, Cal.; and Mrs. Wilford F. (Eva) Webb, Murray; three sons, Lewis and John LeRoy Arnold, both of Salt Lake City; and Roland Arnold, Murray; 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Ed (Ann) Wilson, Ogden.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at 4750 S. State where friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday prior to services. Burial will be in Murray City Cemetery."

Children: John William Arnold Jr. (Raised by his
