Son of John D. and Rachel (Marshall) Helvie. Married catherine Huddleson on 20 Mar 1874 in Wabash County, IN. Father of Lulu May b. May 1876, Jessie C. b. Oct 1877, Rosa B. b. Oct 1878 and Omer Robert b. 22 May 1880.

Following a year's illness of a complication of diseases, Solomon Helvie died at his home, 517 East Main street, at 4:15 o'clock this morning.
Mr. Helvie, who was a timberman, was a member of the United Brethren church, and had lived in Miami County practically his entire lifetime.
He was born in Cass County, December 10, 1847, being 81 years, 5 months and 3 days of age at the time of his death. He was united in marriage with Catherine Huddleson in 1874.
Surviving besides the widow are two daughters, Mrs. May Bruck of Peru and Mrs. Rose Taylor, Cincinnati; a son, Omer Helvie, of near Nead; a brother, Jack Helvie, Huntington; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hammond-Jackson funeral home, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with Rev. Charles J. Roberts officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Solomon Helvie, age 81, retired timberman, died Monday morning at 4:15 o'clock at his home, 517 East Main street, from complications after an illness of a year.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the Hammond-Jackson funeral home. Rev. Chas. J. Roberts, pastor of the United Brethren church, officiated. Interment was made in Mount Hope cemetery.
Mr. Helvie, who had lived here practically all his life, was born in Cass county, December 10, 1847, son of Rev. John and Rachel Helvie. He was married in 1871 to Catherine Huddleson, who survives.
Besides the widow, surviving are two daughters, Mrs. May Bruck, Peru, Mrs. Rose Taylor, Cincinnati, O.; one son, Omer Helvie, near Nead, and one brother, Jack Helvie, Huntington.
