THOMAS HELVIE DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Thomas Helvie, seventy-eight years old, for many years a resident of Majenica and a civil war veteran, died Sunday night at 9:30 o'clock at his home in Majenica following a two year illness following a stroke of paralyis.
Mr. Helvie was born in Miami county, Ohio, Nov. 22, 1843.
His marriage was to Mary Jane Roberts, October 10, 1866.
He is survived by six children: Frank Helvie of Bippus, Reuben Helvie of Robinson, Ill., John H. Helvie of Majenica, Allen H. Helvie of Huntington, Mrs. T. O. Darrow of Warren and George W. Helvie of West Salem, Ohio. Two brothers, Jack Helvie of Andrews and Soloman Helvie of Peru, also survive.
Mr. Helvie enlisted in Company B, 40th Indiana Volunteers, September 15, 1861. He was then eighteen years old. He participated in the battles of Pittsburg Landing, Perryville and Stoney River. He was severely wounded at one time and was mustered out Nov. 24, 1865.
Mr. Helvie moved to Majenica a number of years ago from Browns' Corners where he was proprietor of a grocery store.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Majenica Christian church in charge of Rev. R. W. Page. Burial will be at Barnes Chapel.

Funeral services for Thomas Helvie were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Christian church in Majenica, in charge of the Rev. R. W. Page of Rimer, Ohio, and the Rev. D. B. Hirt, of the Loon Creek Church of the Brethren.
The active pallbearers were grandsons, Jerry, Frank, Kenneth, Leon, Carl, George and Elston Helvie, and Robert Darrow. Flower bearers were granddaughters, Edna, Geneva, Mary and Emmaline Helvie. The honorary pallbearers were Martin Broyles, Joe Mills, William Clampitt, Jesse Williams, Emmet Jarvis, Ben Beaver, Wilbert Hacker and Frank Little.
Interment was at Barnes Chapel.
