Robert S. Whiteman, 67, Everest, Ks, formerly of Overland Park, KS, died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 27 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison, KS. Burial will be in Alderson Cemetery [Good Intent Cemetery?], northwest of Atchison. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Salvation Army.
Bob was born in Sedalia, MO, on November 25, 1936 the son of John Casey [Sr.] and Earlie Sanders Whiteman. He grew up in Sedalia with seven brothers and two sisters. He was a proud Marine, having served in Japan and was a Kansas City Firefighter in his younger days. He was retired from the Social Security Administration as a claims processor. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, George [KIA 7 Dec 1941, Casey, Paul, Lee, Carl and Marshall [KIA Korea].
Bob and Leta R. Duryea were married on May 13, 1958 in Jackson County, MO. They lived in Overland Park, KS, for over 38 years before moving to Everest, KS, two years ago. Survivors include his wife, Leta, of the home; son Russ Whiteman, St. Louis, MO; daughters Robbie Shultes [sic Shults], Everest, and Robin Fleming, Henryville, PA; brother Gene Whiteman, St. Joseph, MO; sisters Sue Cramer, Sun City, AZ [Prescott, AZ] and Violet Williams, Eldon, MO. He was Grandpa to five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
