Franklin Eugene "Gene" Whiteman, 77, St. Joseph, formerly of Halls, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at his home.
He was born Jan. 21, 1930, in Sedalia, a son of John Casey and Earlie V. Saunders Whiteman. In 1953, he was married to Viola F. Butler, who died Jan. 1, 2007.
He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a production foreman for 27 years with Mead Products, formerly Westab. He also worked for Shefield Steel. He was a member of Wyatt Park Christian Church, Mead 25 year Club, AARP, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Surviving are two sons, Richard Miller, and his wife, Pat, of Ballwin, and Vernon Miller, and his wife, Lea, of St. Joseph; two daughters, Sandra Filmer, and her husband, Glenn, and Donna D. Miller, all of St. Joseph; two sisters, Violet Williams, of Eldon, and Sue Cramer, of Prescott, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was also predeceased by seven brothers, John Casey Whiteman, Paul Whiteman, Carl Whiteman, Lee Whiteman, Marshall Whiteman, Robert Whiteman and George Whiteman, for whom Whiteman Air Force Base is named.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at New Liberty Cemetery in Craig. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory in St. Joseph.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Humane Society.
