Daniel Beardsley was born in 1773, Litchfield County, Connecticut, his father was Benajah Beardsley and his mother was Rebecca Taylor. He married Hannah Brush Bailey (born 1776) and they had nine children.
Daniel Beardsley moved ninety-six miles from Litchfield Connecticut to Delaware County, New York, probably some time around 1794 with his father and brother and settled near the town of Delhi. It was there, he met and married Hannah Bailey, daughter of Jacob Bailey and Bathsheba Brush. He is noted, in early 1798 as owning an 18X18 log house, situated on 100 acres, in the mountains, along the Little Delaware River, near the Village of Delhi (first settled in the late 1780's and later called Bovina). His oldest son Barna, was born March 1797, in Delhi. Also living, in Delhi, in 1798, were his first cousin, Elijah Beardsley (son of Phineas) and his father, Benajah and brother, Abel Beardsley. *
It is through his brother that Daniel probably met Hannah Bailey, as Abel Beardsley had property adjoining Alexander Brush, who is Hannah's Uncle.
Daniel and Hannah moved to Ohio and may have left sometime around Oct. 20, 1808, when he defaulted on a court appearance, resulting in a $63.90 judgment against him.* But Daniel Beardsley is noted as one of the First Families of Ohio, having bought land there as early as 1804.
From family lore we hear .... In the winter of 1809 Daniel with his father and eldest son, Barna, traveled over rough roads, with a team and wagon, from Delhi, Delaware County, New York, to Licking County, Ohio, locating six miles east of Newark, the county seat, on the Rock Fork of the Licking River. Here they built a double log cabin suitable for two families and made a "clearing" by grubbing out the small trees and underbrush, girdling the larger trees. Then they planted corn and potatoes, on which to live the coming winter. In August, 1810, Benajah, his father, died. Daniel returned to Delhi, New York, November 1810, for his family, and probably waited for spring to return to Ohio. **
Later, possibly in 1834, when son, Barna is noted to have moved, Daniel and Hannah moved to Hancock County. Daniel died there in August 1849. ***
