Hiel H. Beardsley, husband to first, Ann Strother and second, Eliza M. Dewey. Son of Daniel Beardsley and Hannah Bailey Beardsley.

"At the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Baldwin, in Geneva, February 21, 1897 Hiel Beardsley, aged 89 years, 6 months and 20 days died. Mr. Beardsley was born in Delaware County, N. Y., May 1, 1807, and barring the past year's illness, he had enjoyed a great many years of life in good health. He was married in 1830 to Miss Ann Strather[sic], and was the father of nine children, six of whom survive. He moved to Nebraska in 1887, since which time he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Baldwin, of this place, his wife having died in 1856. He had been a constant member of the M. E. Church for 62 years. Funeral services were held at the Baldwin residence Tuesday, after which the remains were taken to the family lot in the Exeter Cemetery for interment."

Beardsley, H. farmer, Sec. 9; P. O. Sigourney,{Keokuk County, Iowa}; born in Delaware, county New York, May 1, 1807; when quite young his parents moved to Licking county, Ohio; there he was raised on a farm; he came to this State and county in 1854, and located on the place which he now occupies, and which consists of seventy acres of good land, in June 1839, he married Miss Anna Strather[sic], a native of Virginia; she was born in 1810; in 1850 she died, leaving nine children: Emeline, John s., Charles A., Robert B., Wilford W., Hannah, Malinda J., Margaret S. and Jacob; lost four; Benjamin B., Anna, Hannah and Robert B. who died in the war; he was a member of the Eighth Iowa Infantry; Mr. B. is a member of the M. E. church.

Hiel lost one son, Robert Bruce Beardsley, in 1862, who was in Co. H. 33rd Iowa Infantry, to disease.
