THOMAS E. HALLS
Thomas E. Halls, son of James and Annie Halls, was born Jan. 14, 1882, at Loftus, Yorkshire, England, and departed from this life at the Yocom hospital, Aug. 13, 1961, at the age of 79 years and seven months.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edward of Corydon and William of Columbus, Mont.
At the age of four, he and his sister, Ethel, came to America with their parents, arriving in Lucas Aug. 20, 1886.
On May 3, 1904, he was married to Anna Pasco of Lucas. To this union three children were born: one son, Raymond J., of Allerton; two daughters, Helen Ann, (Mrs. Jerry Baker) of Chariton and Dorothy A., (Mrs. Keith Allen) of Chariton; two grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Foster of Butte, Mont., and Mrs. Janie Allen of Lucas; two brothers, James H. of Weldon and Albert J. of Derby; also many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Halls entered the coal mines at an early age with his father. He served from 1912 until 1935 as Lucas postmaster. In 1943, he and his son Raymond went into business in Chariton. He retired in 1955.
While in Lucas he was very active in the Methodist church as Sunday school superintendent and choir director. He was also Past Master of the Lucas Masonic Lodge. For the last 17 years he was a member of the Methodist church in Chariton and a loyal member of its choir for as long as his health permitted.
He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 2:30 p.m. at the Miley Chapel. The Rev. A. E. Beals officiated. Burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
