OBITUARY

THE CHARITON LEADER
Chariton, Iowa
Tuesday, October 11, 1927

JAMES J. HALLS

James Jones Halls, son of Elisha and Elizabeth Halls, was born at St. Newlyn East, Cornwall, England, April 17, 1857, and departed this life at his home in Whitebreast township, October 1, 1927, aged 70 years, 5 months and 16 days.

On November 11, 1880, he was united in marriage to Miss Annie Tippett at Loftus, Yorkshire, England. With his wife and two children he came to America and settled at Lucas, Iowa, Aug. 20, 1886.

Soon after coming to Lucas he placed his church membership in the Lucas M. E. church and has ever been a faithful member, serving with credit the office of Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, chorister and has served as a member of the official board.

He leaves to mourn his loss a loving, devoted and faithful wife, 5 sons, 2 daughters as follows: Thomas E., of Lucas; Mrs. Ethel Foster, of Butte, Mont.; James H., of Derby, Iowa; William H., of Reed Point, Mont.; Edward B., of Absarokee, Mont.; Mrs. Janie Allen, of Lucas; and Albert J., at home, and fourteen grandchildren, also four brothers and two sisters in England.

All the children were present for the last sad rites except William H. and Edward B., who were unable to get here.

He has always been an industrious, energetic and upright citizen, honored and respected by all who knew him. His friends were numberered by his acquaintances who deplore his passing.

Funeral services were held at the Lucas M. E. church, October 4th at two o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. M. V. Mundell, assisted by Rev. Wing. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. H. A. Rogers, Mrs. Geo. W. Crow, Mr. Thos. Hopkins and Mr. L. Hooker.

The following neighbors acted as pall bearers, D. N. Danner, D. E. Curtis, A. B. Peterson, H. T. Robison, Israel and S. Krutsinger. Interment was made in the Chariton cemetery.
