Annie Tippett, daughter of William and Jane Tippett, was born at Scorrier, near Redruth, Cornwall, England, on November 1st, 1861, and died at the home of her son near Derby, Iowa, on June 3, 1929, at the age of 67 years, 6 months and 2 days.
She grew to womanhood in her native country and on November 11, 1880, she was united in marriage to James J. Halls at Loftus, Yorkshire, England. To them were born seven children, five sons and two daughters, Thomas E., of Lucas, Iowa; Mrs. Ethel Foster, Butte, Montana; James H., of Derby, Iowa; William H., of Reed Point, Montana; Mrs. Janie Allen, of Lucas, Iowa; Edward B., of Absarokee, Montana; and Albert J., Chariton, Iowa.
All the children were present at the last sad rites, except Wm. H., who was detained at home on account of illness.
In 1886, with her husband and two older children, Mrs. Halls immigrated to America, arriving at Lucas, Iowa, on August 20 of the same year, where they lived continuously until taken by death. Her beloved companion preceded her to the Great Beyond on Oct. 1, 1927.
When but a youth she gave her heart to Jesus and her hand to the Methodist church in her native land, and when she located in Lucas she transferred her membership to the Methodist Episcopal church here, remaining in that communion a faithful and devoted member until her transition to the church triumphant.
Besides her immediate family, she leaves fifteen grandchildren and a host of friends who will remember her for the beautiful life that endeared her to all who came in contact with her. "Her children rise up and call her blessed."
The funeral was held from the Methodist church at Lucas on June 4th, by the pastor, Rev. W. H. Larrick, assisted by Rev. F. A. Wing, of Woodburn. A large company of friends and neighbors were present to pay a tribute of respect and offer sympathy to the bereaved children. Burial was made in the Chariton cemetery.
