Karner Rites Monday

Funeral Services for Anton F. Karner, 56, of 308 South Fremont Street, owner and founder or the karner Auto Company at 119 Ellis Street, will be held Monday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Stephen's Catholic Church.

Mr. Karner died at about 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon at St. Michael's Hospital. He was taken there Tuesday afternoon by ambulance, called by Henry Schulist, with whom he had been talking on the telephone at the time he was stricken at his home.

Mr. Karner lived most of his life in the same neighborhood. He was born June 7, 1896, a son of the late Charles and Theresa Karner of 328 South Fremont Street. He spent his boyhood at that address and attended local schools. In his young manhood, he was employed by the Soo Line for about five years, serving the railroad at Chippewa Falls, North Fond du Lac and Stevens Point. For three years afterward, he was employed by Arthur Beijer, who operated a machine shop and garage at the site of the present establishment. He began in business for himself in 1925, continuing his garage work until he was stricken Tuesday. The company for many years was the local agency for Nash automobiles and more recently, has had the dealership for International trucks.

Mr. Karner was a member of the local Elks lodge, Moose lodge, of which he was a trustee at the present time, and St. Stephen's Catholic Church.

He was married at Fond du Lac on Nov. 4, 1917, to the former Martha Petta, who survives.

He is further survived by four daughters, Mrs. Pat Elliott, 628 Dixon Street, Mrs. Fred Teal, Rawlins, WY, Mrs. jack Davis of Duluth, MN, and Miss Carolyn Karner, who is a student at the University of Wyoming, Laramie.

There are also seven grandchildren and seven brothers and sisters, Mrs. Mary Corcoran, Tomahawk, Charles and Joseph, San Diego, CA, Mrs. Peter F. Konopacky, 332 South Fremont Street, Mrs. Bruce Hawkins, Arcadia, CA, Frank, 718 Jefferson Street, and Peter of Pontiac, MI.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Karner at the Crosby Funeral Home after 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon. The Elks Lodge will conduct services there at 7:30 o'clock that evening and the Moose Lodge will have services there at 8 o'clock Saturday. Sunday evening at 8 o'clock a general rosary is scheduled. At the same time, St. Cecelia's court No. 183, Women's Catholic Order of Foresters, will say prayers.
