Ruth Alice was born premature (only 3 pounds?), unable to nurse even from a bottle, so a rag was dipped into milk and squeezed and drizzled into Ruth Alice's mouth to help her get any food at birth. She was always very weak, so was carried around lying on a bed pillow. She lived only 8 1/2 months.
