Robert Pech, Jr. was born at Algona, IA, December 23, 1901, the son of Mr and Mrs Fred Pech. His boyhood was spent at Algona and Fairfield except 18 months when the family lived in Minnesota. He attended St. Ambrose College at Davenport, IA, and on December 1927 he enlisted in the marines with the 24th company. He died August 9, 1929 of endocarditis in the Regimental hospital at Shanghai, China, after arriving in China February 26, 1928.

Short funeral services were held at the International funeral parlors with Chaplain Hall in charge.

Mr. Pech is survived by his father, Fred Pech and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Edward Shelangouski, Theodore, Mary, Dorothea, John, Louis, William, Warren, and David, all of Fairfield.

His mother died last May and a sister, Ruth Alice, has preceded him in death.

Three different branches of the service were represented at the funeral services held at St. Mary Catholic church in Fairfield, September 14. Father E B Gaure officiated. Arthur Keller represented the marines, being dressed in their uniform, Robert E Johnson, a sailor, and Thomas Hammond, the soldier. Corporal Howard Smith, who accompanied the body here, also attended. The casket attendants were eight ex-service men: A E Turner, John Barwise, Carol Haney, P L O'Neill, Dale Anderson, Lane E Stansberry, James Roules and Charles Reed.

The body, accompanied by Mr Pech and children Dorothy, Mary and David and Kenneth Hill, was taken to Atlanta, IL, September 20, where short services in charge of Father McGinn were held at the Atlanta cemetery. Members of the Gresham-Crutchley Post American Legion attended. The pall bearers there were: Ralph Connell, Wayne Brandt; Loy Brandt, Jesse Morris, Keith Murphy, Neil Rice, Merlin Huber and Jesse Botkin. Members of the firing squad were: Harold Wagner, Norman Zoplier, Don Kistner, Russell Robinson, Frank Perlman, Mark Dyer, John Gehlbach and Less Bundway. Paul Schmidt was bugler. Those attending the services at Fairfield were Mrs. Henry Stussey, and Mr and Mrs Harvey Bode of Algona, Henry Pech, Mrs. Louis Leisman and Miss Alma Leisman of Atlanta, IL.
