Carol Barker, born 17 November, 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of William F. Barker and Lula Marie Giles, passed away on 27 July, 2010 in Salt Lake City after a valiant battle with cancer.

Carol attended South High School and the University of Utah. In 1962 she served a mission to Southern California for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She attended Stevens-Henager College earning a degree in Secretarial Science and later attended Salt Lake Community College. For many years, Carol worked as a secretary at Utah Title Company, followed by work at Primary Children's Medical Center, and recovery room secretary at the University of Utah Medical Center.

Her hobbies included cross-stitching, sewing, reading, and traveling. She visited most of the United States and much of the world. She continued to learn new skills including tatting and art.

Church service was an important part of her entire life. She very much enjoyed her callings with Young Women, Primary and Relief Society. Carol was a positive influence to many. She loved her family, enjoying many activities with her nieces and nephews. She took devoted care of her mother in her waning years. Carol will long be remembered for her cheerful outlook and her patient, loving ways.

She is survived by her sister Rebecca (Clark) Malmgren, Medford, Oregon; her brother Paul (Lidia) Barker, Sandy, Utah; and her sister-in-law Joleen D. Barker, Farmington, Utah. She also leaves behind 11 nieces and nephews: Stephen, Amy, Justin, and Crystal Barker, Michael Malmgren, Jeri M. Hazelton, Travis and Eric Barker, Michael and Matthew Standing and Cynthia D. Mitchell. She is also survived by her extended family, the Paredes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Franklin Barker and Lula Marie Giles, and her brother William F. Barker.

Funeral services will be held Sat. July 31, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Crescent Park 4th Ward, 10885 Pampas Way, Sandy, UT 84094. Friends and family may call Fri. from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E.
