Alma William Barker passed away on May 1, 2008. Born January 13, 1926 at Ogden, Utah. Al was a champion track runner when he was young. He served in the U.S. Army as a Radio Repairman stationed in Alaska during WWII, qualified Sharpshooter Carbine, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Metal, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Al was certified by the FAA in aircraft maintenance as an electronic specialist and worked for many years in the airline industry. Al resided in the S.F. Bay Area, Plymouth, Calif., Tucson, Ariz., and Sacramento, Calif. He was a member of the Order of Eagles, Elks Club and the Moose Lodge. For many years, Al was a consummate world traveler and also resided in Mallorca, Spain, for several years. Al was a member of the Grape Growers of Amador County. He was one of the first to introduce viognier grapes in the Valley and made some of the best cabernet sauvignon ever, strictly for personal consumption. Al also planted walnut trees on his property in Plymouth and sold his walnuts to Diamond Walnuts. Al loved ballroom and country western dancing. He enjoyed classical music as well, in particular Luciano Pavarotti. He had a unique sense of humor that will be sadly missed by all. Preceded in death by first wife Barbara, survived by Donna Barker. Father to Ross, Linda, Bruce and Norman. Grandfather to nine. Great-grandfather to three with two more eagerly expected this year. Sadly missed with many fond memories.
Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Thursday, May 8, 2008, at 10am, Shenandoah Valley Cemetery in Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions to be made to Sierra Club, 85 Second St., 2nd Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105.
