Death of an Old and Respected Citizen.
Japhet Chapin, one of Antwerp's oldest and most respected citizens, died, at his residence, in this village, at about nine o'clock last Thursday evening, Feb. 16, after an illness of three days, with pneumonia, aged 91 years and 7 months.
Mr. Chapin has resided in Antwerp since Feb. 18th, 1818, and, during all the years of his long residence here, he enjoyed, to an unusual degree, the high esteem and entire confidence of his fellow-townsmen. His funeral was largely attended, at the Congregational church last Sunday forenoon, Rev. C. M. Westlake, assisted by Rev. J.A. Canfield, officiating.

The First Congregational Church of Antwerp
Japhet Chapin was mostly responsible for building this edifice. The church grew under the direction of twenty-two different ministers and nearly seven hundred members in the aggregate. In 1869 the congregation built one of the finest stone church buildings in the area at a cost of $20,000.
