HELEN M. "MEL" AHLERSMEYER, 92, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, in Lafayette, Ind. Born July 28, 1917, in Latty, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Rosetta (Rhoades) Ropp. After graduation, she moved to Fort Wayne, where she worked at Fort Wayne Knitting Mill before marrying Ralph on Aug. 18, 1944. She devoted her life to her family and was involved in her children's activities including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, band, and choir. Surviving are her daughter, Sue Ellen Ahlersmeyer of Fort Wayne; sons, Larry (Betsy) Ahlersmeyer of New Castle and Scott (Lauren) Ahlersmeyer of Lafayette; five grandsons; and sister, Arlene Simpson of Nappanee, Ind. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ralph W. Ahlersmeyer; five brothers; and two sisters. Service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 3705 S. Anthony Blvd., Fort Wayne, with calling from noon to 2 p.m. Pastor Steve Ensley officiating. Burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens. Memorials to Friends of Scouting. Arrangements by Carnahan-Baidinger & Walter Funeral Home, Spencerville, Ind.
