Batesburg, SC - Tandie "Tan" Miller, 62, died Tuesday, January 11, 1955 in an automobile accident on Highway 245 near Batesburg-Leesville. He was a sawmiller and farmer in the Sardis community. He was also a World War I veteran and a member of Nazareth Methodist Church near the Traffic Circle in Saluda County. He was the son of the late William and Perdida Rinehart Miller of Saluda County. He was married April 28, 1917, to the former Lillie Mae Sanford of Saluda County.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie Mae Sanford Miller of Batesburg; six sons, Vernon, Ray, Leland, Edward and Darrell, all of Batesburg, and Evanghn Miller of Aiken; five daughters, Mrs. Marion Shealy of Swansea, Mrs. Jim Frank Lake of Batesburg, Mrs. Leroy Hendrix of Leesville, Mrs. Judson Smith of Lexington and Mrs. Theodore Matthews of Japan; four sisters, Mrs. Sallie (B.G.) Corley of Batesburg, Mrs. Callie Temple and Mrs. Corrie Mills of Batesburg and Mrs. Dollie (Jim) Cromer of Saluda, and 24 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the Nazareth Methodist Church by his pastor, the Rev. M. T. Whorton of Leesville, and the Rev. H. H. Hoover of Saluda. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Carl Berry, Henry Temple, Ollie Kirkland, Bill Lake, Alvin Matthews and L. C. Goff.
The body will be at the Attaway Funeral Home until about 10:30 this morning and then at the home.
