The angel of death made an unexpected call at the home of Peter Arens east of town on Saturday evening [Jan. 9th] at about 7 o’clock, and caused great grief in the family circle by taking away Miss Susan, the 20 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arens. The young lady had been ailing for a few days but it was thought that a slight attack of rheumatism was the cause, and that there was no reason for being alarmed. She had been given medical care, however, and on Saturday evening told her mother that she was feeling better and would like to eat an apple. During the time she ate and fruit she became unconscious and soon expired. Miss Arens was from childhood up exceedingly flesby [?] and it is admitted that appoplexy [apoplexy] of the heart caused her sudden death.
Deceased was born in Fredonia township, this county, August 25, 1884. The funeral was on Tuesday [Jan. 11th], after a solemn requiem service in the Catholic church. The bereaved family has the sincerest sympathies of this community with them.
