John Simmons, 87, died at his home at Flintville on Tuesday, January 28, after a long illness.
Funeral services were held last Thursday at the Flintville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Howard McGehee and the Rev. O. D. Hamilton conducting the services. Burial was at Gum Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Simmons was the son of the late Dock and Sally Sanders Simmons, and was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie Simmons; five daughters, Mrs. Odell Gray of Fayetteville, Mrs. Retha Haneline of Huntington, Indiana, Mrs. Elizabeth Boggs of Ardmore, Mrs. Caroline Bartlett of Fayetteville, and Mrs. Lore Hamilton of Rome, Georgia; seven sons, Hugh D. Simmons, Horace Simmons, and Roy Simmons, all of Lincoln County, Guy Simmons of Decherd, Crawford Simmons of Tullahoma, Wayne Simmons and Riley Simmons, of Huntington, Indiana; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Sneed of Lewisburg; two brothers, Robert Simmons and Richard Simmons of Lincoln County; 34 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today for John Simmons, 87, retired farmer of Flintville, who died at his home there Tuesday afternoon. Services were at the Flintville Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard McGehee and the Rev. O. D. Hamilton in charge. Interment was in Gum Springs Cemetery. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Minnie Simmons; five daughters, seven sons, a sister, two half-brothers, 34 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
