Roy Lee Dingus, age 76, of Alley Valley Road, went to be with the Lord Tuesday afternoon, April 10, 2007 after a long illness while at the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was a life long native of Scott County (Ft. Blackmore) having been born March 16, 1931 a son of the late James Michel and Ellen Victory Babb Dingus. He was a longtime painter having been retired for many years. He also had previously been employed at City Market for approximately 16 years. He was a member of the Alley Valley Baptist Church and attended Log Cabin Church in Weber City, VA.
He is preceded in death by his son: Eddie Dingus, a brother: George Dingus and 4 sisters: Mary Hensley, Lula Darnell, Phoebe Darnell and Myrtle Lanney.
Roy is survived by his wife, Cecile Quillen Dingus of the home; four daughters, Dorothy Crump and husband Chris of Jonesborough, TN, Shirley Derrick of Kingsport, TN, Kathy Hammonds and husband Dennis of Kingsport, TN, Norma Hurbert and husband Beverly of Bristol, TN; one son, Billy Dingus and wife Annette of Gate City, VA; two sisters, Hazel Carter and husband Roy of Rye Cove, VA, Gracie Frazier and husband Lawton of Clinchport, VA; one brother, Willie Dingus of Clinchport, VA; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other family members along with many friends also survive.
Calling hours will be Thursday afternoon, April 12, 2007 from 4 until 7 at Scott County Funeral Home and other times at the family home.
The funeral will follow at 7 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Walker Darnell and Rev. Roy Lane officiating. Music will be provided by the Lee Smith Singers.
The committal service will be Friday morning, April 13, 2007 at 11 AM in the Harris Family Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Those wishing to attend may meet at the funeral home by 10AM to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Christopher Crump, Beverly Hurbert, Dennis Hammonds, Otie Rasnake, Pat Rasnake and Justin Dingus.
