He was a member of the Poland Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge and resided at 255 Oakley Avenue in Youngstown.

They had three children: Kathryn M.(born 1917, married named Walters, died in 1955), Emerson (born 1918) and Sara Jane (born 1921, married a Schall).

Physically Alex was a short man, slightly built; he was "lame in one leg, had a limp in his walk and one shoe had to be built up." When he retired the couple moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
