After husband Edward's death in 1916 Jennie resided in Kittanning for the remainder of her life. However, paradoxically she chose to be buried with her two daughters, Olive and Margaret, in Harkleroad cemetery instead of with husband Edward.

The 1920 census shows Jennie as the head of the house living with unwed 24 year-old daughter Margaret and Margaret's 2 year 11 month old son Luther A. Dowling and 1 year 6 month daughter Mary E. Dowling and sons Thomas (divorced with 5 year-old Henry) and 16 year-old Robert.
