LYNDON --- Marjorie Lee Ogle, 81, Lyndon, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at her home following a year-long battle with cancer.

Mrs. Ogle was born Oct. 24, 1923, on the Kersten family farm near Vassar, the daughter of Emil Ezra and Louise Anna Miller Kersten. She attended elementary school in Vassar and worked as a domestic worker in order to attended high school in Lyndon, where she graduated in 1941. She later graduated from Clark's Business School in Topeka and attended Allen County Community College.

Mrs. Ogle spent most of her life in the Lyndon community, working at various jobs, including for the Lyndon Broom Factory, County Extension Office, Kansas Power and Light power station in Tecumseh and with the SRS Office. After retirement, she continued to work part-time as an assistant manager at a Lyndon convenience store and then until illness prevented it, as a lunch room aide for Lyndon Public Schools.

An accomplished cook, she also baked pies for a Lyndon restaurant for many years.

Mrs. Ogle was a member of Michigan Valley Christian Church and the VFW auxiliary. She recently was honored for her long service on the county election board. One of her favorite pastimes was dancing, and she regularly attended senior citizen dances in Ottawa and nearby communities.

During her lifetime, Mrs. Ogle married four times. All of her husbands preceded her in death. In 1941, she married Lewis Boyd. he died in 1961. In 1949, she married Kenneth D. Womble. He died in 1975. In 1984, she married Jerome Crettol. He died in 1995. In 1997, she married Ben Ogle. He died in 1999.

Mrs. Ogle also was preceded in death by a brother, Rawlin Kersten; two sisters, Verla White and Mildred Ashwill; and a grandson, Chris Boyd.

She is survived by four children and their spouses, Galen and Betty Boyd, Harlingen, Texas, Ron and Connie Womble, Pittsburg, Lyla (Womble) and Jim Peterson, Lyndon, and Sheryl (Womble) and Rendy Habiger, Auburn; a sister, Doris Turvey, Topeka; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Feltner Funeral Home in Lyndon with the Rev. Gregg Childress officiating. Burial will be in Vassar Cemetery. Mrs. Ogle will lie in state after 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The family suggests memorial contribution to the American Cancer Society.
