LYNDON --- Rawlin Kersten, 83, Lyndon, died Monday, April 22, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Kersten worked for McDaniel Hardware and Implement in Lyndon for 25 years. He also was a parts manager for Debaun International in Osage City for 10 years. He earlier worked a short time for Osage County. He served as a technical sergeant aircraft maintenance mechanic with the 27th Bomb Squadron in the Pacific theater in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was born Nov. 23, 1918, near Vassar, the son of Emil and Louise Miller Kersten. He was raised in Vassar and lived most of his life in Lyndon.

Mr. Kersten was a member of Wesleyan Methodist Church in Lyndon, where he served as Sunday school superintendent for many years. He was a former member of the Lyndon City Council and was active in the Osage County Republican Party. He was a member of Post No. 6406 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Post No. 125 of the American Legion, both in Lyndon.

He married Virginia Kersten on March 1, 1946, near Lyndon. She survives.

Other survivors include four sisters, Verla White, Mildred Ashwill and Doris Turvey, all of Topeka, and Marjorie Ogle, Lyndon.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Burial will be in Lyndon Cemetery. Mr. Kersten will lie in state art the funeral chapel after 2 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice and sent in care of the funeral chapel.
