Martha Hendrix was born in Henderson County, Illinois, January 30th, 1858. She was the daughter of Henry and Sarah Hendrix, who were the parents of 12 children, 8 of whom are still living. She was married on July 24th, 1884 to A. B. Claypool and to this union were born 4 children, 3 girls and one boy; the boy and girl died in infancy, the other two daughters are, Mrs. John L. Swanson of Lenapah, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Vern Thurston who resides near Henderson, Kansas. These with the bereaved husband, six grandchildren, and many relatives and friends mourn her loss. Mrs. Claypool came with her husband and family to McPherson, Kansas in 1903 were she has since resided. For many years she has been quite frail in body, and recently has been a great sufferer. When only a girl she was converted and for about a half century has been a devout Christian. One sister, Mrs. Kate Dunn of Abbyville, Kansas was with her at the time of her death. Mrs. Claypool was also a member of the Security Benefit Association, the members of which order are present today to pay this last tribute of respect to their departed sister.
