John F. Hendrix, 87, died at 12:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, June 18, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. O.E. Murphy, following a lingering illness. He was born September 21, 1856, in Indiana, a son of the late Henry W. and Elizabeth Wingfield Hendrix. At the age of nine years he came to Missouri with his parents and located in the Bethel community. Following his marriage to Flora Alice Shulse on April 25, 1888, he engaged in farming and for the past forty years owned a farm in the Madisonville community south of Ceneter. Following the death of his wife, July 8, 1924, he retired and had been making his home with his children. He was a charter member of Center Baptist church and regular in attendance. He leaves three daughters, Mrs. A.S. Webb, Mrs. Jeddie Dowell and Mrs. O.E. Murphy, of Center, and one son, Delbert Hendrix of Rock Island, Ill. Another son, William Hendrix, died at Moline, Ill., September 21, 1938. Mr. Hendrix was one of fourteen children and is survived by a brother, Mac Hendrix of Ely, Mo., and a sister, Mrs. Kate Dunn of Abbeyville, Kansas. He also leaves eighteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Three grandchildren have died. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the Baptist church conducted by Rev. N.S. Dunham of Hannibal, a former pastor here. Interment was in the Shulse cemetery, north of Center
