COLLISION ON BRIDGE FATAL TO MOTORIST:

Charles E. Stottlemyer, Age 61, Dies in crash on Madison Avenue span.

Witnesses assert Stottlemyer car apparently out of control. Swerved from side to side before collision.

DRIVER OF SECOND VEHICLE EXONERATED:

Virgil W. Ledford, 23, 1620 Raible Avenue, attempts to avert wreck.

Charles E. Stottlemyer, 1429 west Fourteenth Street, suffered fatal injuries about 6:30 p.m. Monday when his automobile was in a collision on the Madison Avenue bridge with a small dump truck operated by Virgil W. Ledford, 1620 Raible avenue.

Mr. Stottlemyer, who was enroute home from the municipal golf course, where he had been employed the past seven years as a greenskeeper was conscious when removed from the wreckage, but expired before reaching St. John's Hospital where he was rushed in Baker Bros. ambulance.

Mr. Stottlemyer was a native of Madison County and had resided in Anderson for the past 37 years. The family had lived at the west Fourteenth Street address for eighteen years.

Mr. Stottlemyer was formerly employed at the Anderson Knife and Bar Company. He was a member of the Whetstone Brotherhood and Sisterhood and the Eagles lodge.

Surviving are his widow Mrs. Hama Stottlemyer; three daughters, Mrs. Hugh Harrison of Anderson; Miss Nida Stottlemyer of Denver, Colo.; and Mrs. Mina Hite, of Washington D.C.; a son, Howard Stottlemyer of Anderson; three grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. John Davis, of Anderson; Mrs. Rebecca Hite, of Pendleton, and Mrs. Rachel Ginder, of Noblesville.

The body was taken to the George McCarty funeral home at Fortville pending completion of arrangements for service. The rites will not be set until after arrival of the daughters from Denver and Washington.

Funeral services for Charles E. Stottlemyer will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the family home. Rev. H.C. Armstrong, pastor of the Central Christian Church will be in charge.

Burial will be in Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
