Henry Gamler was born in Pike Township in Berks County, the eldest child of William and Margareth Bleckle Kemler (also Gamler, Gemler, or Gambler.) Henry married first on 8 December 1860 to Mary A Leinbach, daughter of Bennevile and Harriet Leinbach of Leesport. After Mary's death, Henry married Sarah Bower. Sarah and Henry raised two boys, Charles and William Henry from Henry's first marriage, and had 11 children, 10 of whom lived to adulthood. They were: Margaret, Sarah E, Ida, Obediah, Anna, Louisa, Lucetta, Stella (dy), Joseph Thomas, Catharine, and Franklin H. The family lived for several years in Montgomery County, then moved to Lehigh County where Henry worked as a stone mason.

About 1884, the family relocated for a final time to Lebanon, where they made their home at 523 North Eleventh Street. Henry Gamler was a member of St. Paul's United Evangelical church, Iron City Castle, No. 107, Knights of the Golden Eagle, and Lebanon Circle, No. 25, Brotherhood of America.

Survivors included his wife and children, William, of North Eleventh street; Obediah of North Fourth street; Joseph of Orchard Avenue; Frank, at home; Miss Maggie, at home; Miss Anna, at home; Mrs. Harry Minnich, of 1921 Church street; Mrs. George Johnson of this city; Mrs. Charles Bright, of Reading; Mrs. Edward Malley, of Philadelphia; and Mrs. Jacob Fernsler, of Hebron.

These brothers and sisters were also survivors: Joseph, Rev. Uriah and Mrs. Maggie Craze, of Lebanon; William of Reading, Samuel of Leesport, and Mrs. William Phillpotts [Philpot], of Philadelphia.
