August C. Rabe, 67, well-known town of Schleswig farmer, passed away at the Sheboygan Memorial hospital Monday morning. He had been a patient there for the past three weeks.

The deceased, the son of the late Frederick and Wilhelmina Kaperich Rabe, was born in town Meeme on March 9, 1876. In his youth he attended the district schools of Meeme township. His marriage to Miss Caroline Schnuell of town Eaton was performed 45 years ago on Aug. 30, 1898. Before Mr. and Mrs. Rabe engaged in farming, Mr. Rabe operated a blacksmith shop at Valders and St. Nazianz for a number of years. The couple has resided in various places in Schleswig and Meeme townships. For the past 29 years Mr. and Mrs. Rabe and their family have resided on the farm in town Schleswig near Steinthal.

Mr. Rabe has been a member of town Schleswig town board and for the past three years has served as supervisor. Besides being a faithful and devout member of the Zion church. Mr. Rabe has been a member ot the consistory for many years, serving as an elder of the church.

Survivors are his wife, 10 children, Alvin of Schleswig; Alfon of Eaton; Rueben of Manitowoc; Frederick of Kiel; Elmer of town Schleswig; Arno at home; Mrs. Frank (Amanda) Karstaedt of Meeme; Mrs. Michael (Florence) Rabe of Eaton; Mrs. Eldon (Dorothy) Fluhr of Schleswig; Mrs. Francis (Elda) Wagner of Kiel; four brothers, Otto of Eaton; George, of Schleswig; John of Kiel; and Herman of New Holstien; and three sisters; Mrs. Herman Schelk of Crivitz; Mrs. Edward Christel of Town New Holstein; and Mrs. Alma Ruh of Kiel.

Funeral services will be held from the Meiselwitz Funeral home and at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Louis Corners. The Rev Harold O Grunewald, pastor of the church will officiate and interment will be made in the adjoining church cemetery.

Rabe, August Carl (March 9, 1876-Sept. 29, 1943 –husband of Caroline Schnuell [married Aug. 30, 1898 in Lutheran ceremony at residence of Charles Schnuell in Town of Eaton] –son of Frederich Rabe and Wilhelmina Kapernick [both born in Germany] –born Town of Meeme –before his marriage August operated a blacksmith shop in Valders and St. Nazianz –farmer in Town of Schleswig –in the 1900 census for the Town of Liberty, August is shown as a blacksmith living in Valders with his wife Caroline –from June 9, 1898 to May 3, 1901, John owned an undeveloped lot along South Fourth Avenue in St. Nazianz –on April 16, 1915 purchased the 120 acre former Richard Christel farm centered at 21207 Townline Road in Section 4, Town of Schleswig –owned this farm until his death in 1943 –the farm then went to his son Elmer Rabe –died from "cancer of the prostate") –buried at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Louis Corners, Town of Schleswig [marriage record Manitowoc 7-10] [death record Manitowoc 36-508]
