Ruben C. Rabe Sr., 95, of New Holstein died Tuesday Dec. 17, 2002 at Willowdale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Holstein.
He was born October 1, 1907 in the Town of Schleswig, the son of the late August and Caroline Schnuell Rabe. Ruben married Anna M. Kuehl at Zion Lutheran Church in Louis Corners on August 26, 1933. He attended Hillside Grade School in the town of Schleswig. He was employed as a cheesemaker at Midwest Creameries until his retirement. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in New Holstein. He enjoyed his grandchildren, gardening, listening to the Packers, bird watching, walking and cards.
Ruben is survived by one son Ruben Jr. (Mary) of New Holstein; two daughters, Geraldine (Merlin) Kuester of Kiel and Rachel (Robert) Schwark of New Holstein; five grandchildren; one sister, Florence (Herman) Binversie of rural Kiel; three brothers-in-law, Eldon Fluhr and Francis Wagner, both of Kiel and Arvin "Huns" Kuehl of New Holstein, and one sister-in-law, Betty Rabe of Kiel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sisters, Amanda Karstaedt, Elda Wagner and Dorothy Fluhr, five brothers, Alvin, Alfons, Fred, Elmer and Arno.
Funeral services will be at St. John United Church of Christ, New Holstein, the Rev. James E. Werner will officiate. Burial will be in the New Holstein Cemetery.
