Norman came to the Hubbard/ Silverton area during the depression looking for work in Oregons orchards, as advertised in flyers at the time; alas, no work. Norman and Cora came with 8 children.
His birth certificate and his WW II draft registration records both have incomplete erasures of the name "William" on them. The Wayne County records of live births also list his first name as "William."
When I checked with his children, my aunts and uncles, they knew nothing of the name "William" in connection with their father, my grandfather!
