Graveside services for Donald S. Thomason, 85, Atlantic, formerly of Villisca and Red Oak, were Saturday, November 4, 1995, in the Atlantic Cemetery. The Rev. Charles J. Downing officiated and Roland Funeral Home, Atlantic, Iowa in charge of arrangements. Mr. Thomason died Thursday, November 2, 1995, at Cass County Memorial Hospital, Atlantic, Cass County, Iowa.
He was born January 28, 1910, in Montgomery County to Elmer and Lulu Stewart Thomason, attended rural school and grade school in Villisca, graduated from Villisca High School in 1927 and attended Iowa State University in Ames. After working as a building contractor in Montgomery County, he moved to Oregon to work construction and went to Alaska in 1940 to work for Army Engineers in Seward. He married Helen Maxell in Mapleton, Oregon and the couple lived there eight years, moved to Red Oak to reside four years and moved to Atlantic in 1954 where he was an excavating contractor until retiring in 1976. He was a member of First United Church and Atlantic Golf and Country Club.
Survivors include his wife; sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; nieces, including Julie Nicolaisen and her husband, Roger, of Omaha; nephews; his aunt, Garnet Stall of Carrolton, Missouri, cousins.
