FUNERAL RITES FOR CHARLES COX
Funeral services are to be held at 2 pm Thursday, December 2, from the Richarson Funeral Home for Charles Coxm 85, who died at a Clarkson nursing home Monday night, Nov. 29
Cox was a resident of 536 High Street, Pomeroy, but had been confined to the Rest Haven in Clarkston for about a month.
The Rev. Spauling Howe, Jr., St.Peters's Episcopal church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Pomeroy City Cemetery. Chosen as Pallbearers are Graden Core, Bud Wade, Freddie Ruark, Bill Strain, Richard Keatts, and Don Stallcop.
Cox was born in the state of Texas on March 31, 1880. His parents were Aaron and Mary Cox. On Aug 27, 1918, he married Maude Ogden at Pomeroy.
Cox was a retired Garfield county farmer. He was a member of St. Peters Episcopal,church, the Pataha Valley Grange and the Elks Lodge (BPOE No. 896) Lewiston, Idaho.
Surviving include Maude, at their Pomeroy home; three sons; Delbert Cox, Missoula, Mont., Glen and Ellis Cox, both of Pomeroy; two stepchildren, Vern Ogden, Loma Linda, Calif; and Frances Core, Ventura, Calif., two brothers, George Cox of Mica, Wash., and Jim Cox of Clarkston, two sisters, Mrs. Chancelor Routh, Pasco, Wash., and Mrs. Ethel Shockley, Texas and 12 grandchildren.
Cox farmed a number of ranches at different times in his life. For 17 years he was on the Black place which is now farmed by Harry McCanse. He owned and farmed a ranch at Nezperce for several years also. Another five years were spent on the Henry Freeburn place which is now farmed by Billy Robertson. The last 13 years were spent on the Garret place at Dodge (known as the Bill Yankee place although Yankee didn't own it) The Coxes moved to Pomeroy in 1944 to retire.
