John Leonard Royer, 69, of 2807 South Street, died unexpectedly Friday evening at his residence. He had been in failing health several months.

Born in Wea Township, he had resided in Tippecanoe County since 1927. He graduated from Wea schools and Jefferson High School and was employed as a lock setter for Schwab Safe Co., Inc. retiring in 1978.

A veteran of World War II he served with the Fifth Army in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy.

Mr. Royer was past master of Tippecaoe Lodge 492, F&AM and a member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Temple and Lafayette Shrine Club. He also was a member of American Legion Post 75 in Delphi and a life member of VFW.

Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Richard B. (Edna) Schwartz, Mrs. Floyd (Muza L.) Ayres and Mrs. John C. (Ruth)Mertz all of Lafayette.

Friends may call at Landis Loy Mortuary from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday with Masonic services at 7 p.m. Services there 10 a.m. Tuesday the Rev. Dr. Joseph G. Wick officiating. Interment Spring Grove Cemetery with graveside services conducted by American Legion Post 75. Those desiring may contribute in memoriam to Masonic Home in Franklin.
