Ruth d. Mertz, 92 of Lafayette died Monday, October 3, 2011 in Lafayette.
Born March 19, 1919 in Wea township she was the daughter of the late Mary M. Blue Royer and B. F. Royer. She was a 1937 graduate of Jefferson High School and lived in Tippecanoe County her entire life.
She married John C. Mertz on August 17, 1941 and he died April 2006.
Mrs. Mertz had worked as a secretary at various companies throughout her lifetime until her retirement.
She was a member of First Christian church in addition to being a 50 year member of the Eastern Star Hope Chapter No. 5. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Survivors include one son Michael J. Mertz of Lafayette and one daughter Patricia J. Mertz Gagnon (husband Ronald A.) of Salado, Texas.
Also surviving are her many friends. Preceded in death by 2 sisters, Muza L. Ayres and Edna L. Schwartz, 1 brother John L. Royer and her daughter-in-law Nancy J. Mertz.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hippensteel Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Eberhard officiating. Visitations will be 30 minutes prior to the services. Private family entombment will follow service. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the donors favorite charity.
