Madison was the son of Frances Sill and Samuel Kent. His father moved the family from Ohio to Brown County, Indiana, in the 1860s. There Madison met and married Martha Parsley on 17 Oct 1869 and they had twelve children, seven of whom were living at time of his death.

Following is the Brown County Democrat (Nashville, Indiana) – 31 Dec 1936 newspaper reprint of obituary from 19 years past.

MADISON KENT SUCCUMBS
Madison Kent, seventy years of age, died very suddenly from an attack of heart trouble at his home near Belmont. He remarked at about 11 o’clock that he could not sleep and got out of bed and sat in a chair. In a few minutes, he was found dead. He was the son of Samuel Kent and had been a resident of Brown county for sixty years. For many years he operated a flour mill near Belmont. Surviving were his wife and seven children.

AN ASIDE: Madison Kent was my Great-Uncle. My old notes of Kent genealogy placed him in Duncan cemetery, where his memorial remained for seven years. The recent online addition of Indiana Death Certificates reflect burial in Deckard Cemetery which is further confirmed in "Death Records of Brown County Indiana, 1880-2000" (Thanks to Contributor Mark McCrady). Thus, this memorial was moved to proper cemetery.
