Mrs. Clara Skirvin, age 62, wife of Smith Skirvin, died of pneumonia at her home four miles east of the city on State Road 46 late Saturday afternoon. She had been ill only seven days.
Mrs. Skirvin was one of the active members of the Mt. Gilead Christian Church and served as a teacher and assistant superintendent of the Sunday school there. She was also identified with the work of the W. C. T. U. and acted as treasurer of this organization.
She is survived by the husband; three sons, Obel (sic); Jason and Samuel Skirvin; two daughters, Mrs. Justis (sic) Craig and Mrs. Edgar Empson; 18 grandchildren; one brother, Mathis Kent; and two sisters, Mrs. Ed Brocken of Vicksburg, Miss., and Mrs. Arch Vandeman of Dallas, Texas.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock from the Mt. Gilead Church in charge of the Rev. W. C. Chafin. A male quartet composed of Donald A. Rogers, Dr. Harry Stevenson, George Rogers and William Wood will sing. Interment will be in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery and pallbearers will be Milton, Edgar and Robert Skirvin, Lester Gray, George Crider and Thomas Kent.
