Mr. Maxwell H. "Max" Keckler, Sr., 93, of 46 Clayton Ave., Waynesboro, PA, died at 3:57 A.M. Tuesday, February 25, 2003 in the emergency room of Waynesboro Hospital. Death was unexpected and attributed to heart failure.
Born September 10, 1909 in Five Forks, PA, he was the son of the late Jacob O. and Josephine (King) Keckler. He lived all of his life in the Five Forks and Waynesboro areas.
Mr. Keckler attended Greensdale School and graduated from Quincy High School with the class of 1927. He was a graduate of Waynesboro Business College in 1929.
He and his wife of over 68 years, Mrs. Marguerite H. (Haugh) Keckler, were married August 4, 1934 in Baltimore, MD. They moved to their present residence in 1987.
Early in his life, Mr. Keckler was a farmer. Prior to retiring in 1972, he worked at Letterkenny Army Depot for 30 years in general supply and war assets.
Mr. Keckler was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro and National AARP.
His hobbies included golfing, horse racing, and working puzzles.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Maxwell H. "Ted" Keckler, Clarksburg, MD; two brothers, Andrew Keckler, a resident of Shook Home, Chambersburg, PA and Carl Keckler, Waynesboro; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.
Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday March 1, 2003 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with Rev. Sharon Van Dam officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
