John D. Hardman, 72, a resident of the YMCA, died at 3:45 p.m. Friday at the Waynesboro Hospital .

He had been complaining for several weeks, and on Tuesday was found unconscious in his. room as the result of a heart attack by an attendant. He never regained consciousness.

He was born at Fountaindale, the son of J. L. and Lucy Sprenkle Hardman. He lived there until he was 19 when he went west and settled in Spokane, Washington. For 43 years he followed the barber trade in Harrington and Davenport, Wash., and ten years ago he returned to Waynesboro and was employed at the hospital for chronic diseases at Fort Ritchie and then moved to Montibello Hospital in Baltimore where he was employed until two years ago. For a time he was employed as a janitor at the Chevrolet garage after he returned from Baltimore two years ago. He had been retired since last spring.

He was a member of Acacia Lodge F. and A.M., Davenport, Wash.; Knights of Pythias Lodge, Olympia, Wash., and the Davenport Chapter, 131 Eastern star.

He is survived by a son, Louis Ivan Hardman, California; two grandchildren; these brothers and sisters, Emory W., Waynesboro Route 3; Ivan C., Mrs. Charles Haugh, Mrs. Omar Martz, Mrs. Russell Beckner, Mrs. Adrian Snurr, all of Waynesboro, and Mrs. Hugh Barlup, Waynesboro Route 2.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Grove Funeral Home in charge of Rev. Glenn L. Stahl. Burial will be made in Green Hill Cemetery.
