EMORY W. HARDMAN, 78, died at 10:30 a.m. today after suffering a stroke at his home, 245 N. Broad St., Waynesboro. He had been in failing health for several years and confined to his home for the last week.
He was born in Wilmington Del., Jan. 26, 1891, a son of the late James L. and Lucinda I. Sprenkle Hardman. All of his life was lived in the Waynesboro area.
As a young man, he farm near State Line and for number of years was employ as a carpenter by the contracting firm of the late William Hollinger. Prior to his retirement in 1957, he worked a carpenter at Landis Machine Co. for over 30 years.
His wife, Mrs. Estella G. Kemper Hardman, died March 1965. He had lived at the North Broad Street residence, sine 1958.
He was a member of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society of the Church.
He is survived by these children: Donald L. Hardman Chambersburg R. D. 5; Paul I Hardman, Waynesboro R. D. 3 Mrs. Helena Foose, at home; Emory W. Hardman Jr. Berryville, Va. and Dr. John K Hardman, Baltimore. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, a brother, Ivan C. Hardman Waynesboro, and five sisters Mrs. Rhoda Martz, Mrs. Letha Beckner, Mrs. Noma Haugh and Mrs. Lemma Snurr, all of Waynesboro, and Mrs. Pearl Barlup, Greencastle.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Andrew Church by the Rev. Anthony Burakowski. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Grove Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.
