Lola "Ruth" Welch Cortese, 81, a retired Clerk/Typist, went home to be with her Lord, Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Magee General Hospital Magee. Visitation was Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Colonial Chapel in Magee. Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Colonial Chapel in Magee, with burial in the Old Good Hope Cemetery. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee, handled the arrangements.

Mrs. Cortese was born Aug. 26, 1928, to Wilson H. and Mary Jane Welch in Simpson County. She was a member of Shady Grove Church of God.

Survivors include: daughters, Jane White Cockrell, Magee, Janice White Parker (B.J.), Cullman, AL, Debbi Keller Greene (Vernon), Destrehan, La., Janice Cortese Roper (Charles), Slidell, La., Marilyn Cortese Bigelow (Stan); son, Jerry Cortese, Ala.; brother, A.G. Welch, Hattiesburg; sister, Alma W. Maher, Laurel; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a special God Child, Sonja F. Stevenson; a host of nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Proceeded in death by parents, Wilson H. Welch and Mary Jane Jennings Welch; husband, Joseph A. Cortese; brothers, Claude L. Welch, Kiley C. Welch, Clifton W. Welch, Willie T. Welch, Woodrow Welch, F. D. "Dock" Welch, Sidney "Sid" Welch; and sister, Mattie W. Cole.
