He was born December 17, 1916, outside of Mendenhall, in the Martinville community. He served in the United States Air Force, with honor, for 20 years, achieving the rank of MSQT. In 1960 he returned to Martinville, working as a cattle and chicken rancher. He was a founding member of the Magee Church of God, serving faithfully until his move to the Jackson area in December 1993. He will be loved and remembered as a man of Godly character, compassion and integrity.
Mr. Welch is survived by his wife, Florence M. Welch of Flowood; his son, Larry W. Welch and wife Stephanie of Brandon; grandson, Paul R. Welch and his wife, Jessica of Birmingham, Ala.; granddaughter, Stevie L. Welch of Brandon; grandson, Christian Blake Welch of Brandon; brother, A.G. Welch and his wife Ruby of Magee; sisters, Alma Welch Maher of Mendenhall and Ruth Welch Cortese and her husband Joe of Magee; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were held Friday, January 26, at 11 a.m. at Upton-Mims Mitchell Funeral Home in Magee, followed by internment in Good Hope Cemetery.
