Eleanor Jane Millikan was the 12th of 14 children and the 5th daughter born to Nancy Hurst and Captain and Reverand Elihu Millikan. She was born Feb. 20, 1825 in Morristown, Tennessee where her father was pastor of Mossy Creek Baptist Church. Her mother died in 1830, and Rev. Millikan remarried in 1838 to Cynthia Lea in Lea Springs, Grainger Co., Tennessee.

Eleanor Jane married James Hervey McChesney in 1849 when she was 23 years old. They had 13 children, listed here.

Eleanor died in November, 1915 at the home of her daughter Nancy Emmeline McChesney. She was 90 years 9 months 10 days old. She was buried with her husband and 2 children, Persifer Bennett and Montgomery Douglas McChesney at Dollar Cemetery, Caldwell County, Kentucky.
