Elias R. Baldwin of Co. A. 26th Michigan was wounded in the hand during action at the Wilderness on May 11, 1864. He had enlisted just a few months ago at Grand Rapids on March 4, 1864, at the age of 21 and would survive the war. He was discharged by Special Order No. 140, dated June 3, 1865, and his grave is in the Ruggles Cemetery at Baroda, Berrien County, Michigan. Earlier in the war, on Dec. 15, 1862, would find 42 year old Joseph Baldwin of Manistee, serving in Company A. of the 26th Michigan, "Deserted" after learning of the death of J.A. Baldwin who had been serving in Michigan Co. K. of Berdan's U.S. Sharpshooters. He had died on November 25, 1862, and was buried in the Alexandria National Cemetery, Grave # 484.

Father of 7 children, 4 still living at his death.
