George was married to Elizabeth J. (Matha) Mather and had these children: Cora A., Delbert Frank and Allie M. Gearhart. His wife Elizabeth is buried in Sharp Ridge Methodist Cemetery, Mayberry Twp., Montour Co., PA

George W. Gearhart enlisted in the Union Army the 11th Ohio Cavalry, Company G, on June 12, 1863. Enlisted with him were his brother in-laws, Serrin Jerome Finch and Calvin Britton Holbrook. The regiment was organized by battalions; the organization being completed in July 1862 and was assigned to Indian warfare. It has about 1,000 miles of country to picket and was engaged in almost innumerable skirmishes. The ground of its operations was in the center of the Rocky Mountains, and embraced portions of Nebraska, Dakota, Colorado, Utah, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. The first Battalion was mustered out April 1, 1865 and the remaining companies not until July 1865.

January 21, 1891, Declaration for Invalid Pension. He states that he is wholey unable to earn a support by manual labor. Reason: Rhuematies Cattarrh Lung Disease. He was residing at the National Military Home, Leavenworth, Kansas. George age 65 residing in Danville Soldiers Home, Vermilion Co., Illinois still getting $8.00 per month asking for increase.

March 06, 1895, George writes to Hon. Wm. Lochren in reply to the notice. He states that he is unable to earn his support by labor. No other income except from the government. Dr. bill of $5.00 and he cannot pay it; he was residing at the National Military Home, Leavenworth, Kansas and before that residing at 918 South G. Street, St. Joseph, Missouri.

1905, DECLARATION FOR INCREASE OF AN INVALID PENSION
Acts of June 27, 1890, and May 9, 1900 and Order No. 78 of Commissioner of Pensions
Promulgated March 16, 1904
State of Illinois, County of Vermillion, ss: On this 4th day of October, A. D. one thousand nine hundred and five, before me, D. P. Hughes, Notary Public within and for County and State aforesaid, personally appeared George Gearhart, aged sixty five years, a resident of Danville Soldiers Home, county of Vermilion, State of Illinois who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is a pensioner of the United States, enrolled at the Chicago, Illinois Pension Agency, at the rate of eight Dollars per month, under Certificate No. 795.110, issued under act of June 27, 18990, Partial inability to earn a support by manual labor having served i the Military service of the United States in Co. G, 11th Regt. Ohio Vol Cavalry and was HONORABLY DISCHARGED, after a service of at least ninety days during the War of the Rebellion; that his present physical condition is such that he believes himself entitled to receive an increased rate under the provisions of the Act of June 27, 1890, and under Act of June 27, 1890 and under Act of May 9, 1900, and Order No. 78 of the Commissioner of Pensions promulgated March 16, 1904, he having attained the age of 65 years, 5 mos, and now suffers from Increased disabilities from pensioned causes also. Heart disease, Hemorrhoids, Diseases of eyes, defective hearing, Catarrh of head, Kidney disease, enlarged liver, injury to fore finger right hand, varicose veins and resulting disabilities.

That he was born on the second day of May, A. D. 1840.

Applicant respectfully requests to be ordered before the Board of Examining Surgeons at Covington, Ind. all of which are permanent in character and not due to vicious habits. He hereby appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation, Henry C. Cutter of Danville, Illinois his true and lawful attorney to prosecute his claim. That his post office address is Soldiers Home, Danville, Illinois, County of Vermilion, State of Illinois.
