STAUNTON -- Oscar Lightner Arehart, 88, of Route 3, Staunton, died at 7:20 a.m. Thursday (May 11) in Waynesboro Community Hospital.
He was born May 20, 1900, in Augusta County, a son of Henry O. and Nora B. Hawpe Arehart.
Mr. Arehart was a farmer. He was a member of Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Josephine Troxell Arehart; three sons, Henry W. Arehart of Ozark, Ala., Oscar E. Arehart of Route 1, Greenville, and Robert W. Arehart of Waynesboro; four daughters, Mrs. Oscar M. Humphreys Jr. of Staunton, Mrs. Guy H. Smiley of Verona, and Miss Lillian D. Arehart, both of Staunton; a brother, Cary Arehart of Staunton; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Lotts of Waynesboro and Mrs. Catherine Croft of Staunton; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Julius S. Garbett.
Burial will be in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Franklin Humphries, Joseph Humphries, Dewey Bosserman, Randy Bosserman, Chris Bosserman, Cary Baker Arehart and Dean Harlow.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the Henry Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Memorial donations may be made to the Association for Retarded Citizens, 1025 Fairfax Ave., Waynesboro 22980.
